Oregon Ducks Basketball Season Ends in Loss; Summit and Crook County Victorious in 5A Playoffs

The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball season has concluded. They lost their final game to rival Washington. This marks the end of a challenging year for the team. The Ducks finished with a 11-19 overall record. Their conference record stood at 4-15. This placed them 16th in the Big Ten Conference standings. Therefore, an NCAA Tournament bid is unlikely. They will be one of the bottom four seeds in the Big Ten tournament. This season was tough for Oregon basketball news.

Indeed, the Ducks’ campaign was difficult. It has been called “woeful.” This is unusual for the Dana Altman coaching era. Oregon has not reached 20 wins this season. This is the first time since 2010. It is also their worst record since 2008-09. That year, the team finished 8-23.

Oregon recognized five seniors in their final home game. These players included Nate Bittle and Takai Simpkins. Drew Carter, Oleksandr Kobzystyi, and Miles Stewart were also honored. Nate Bittle played his last home game. He led the team in scoring the past two seasons. Bittle also ranks third all-time at Oregon in career blocks. Last year, he earned third-team Big Ten honors. He also made the all-defensive team.

Meanwhile, the Oregon 5A high school basketball playoffs saw different outcomes. Summit High School advanced. They beat Corvallis 62-45. This victory sends Summit to the state tournament. It is their fifth straight appearance. Summit is the No. 5 seed. They will play No. 4 Thurston next. This is a rematch of last year’s game.

Additionally, Crook County also secured a win. They defeated Lebanon 73-55. Crook County is the top seed in Class 5A. They moved up this season. The Cowboys are 24-1 overall. They will compete in the state tournament. Their next opponent is Crater. This win is a trending sports story.

However, Ridgeview’s playoff run ended. They lost to Thurston 57-40. Ridgeview made its first playoff appearance in over a decade. They were the 13th seed. The Ravens played well early. They were tied with Thurston at halftime. Unfortunately, Thurston dominated the second half.

These results show contrasting fortunes in Oregon sports. The Ducks’ season is over. High school teams are advancing in the playoffs. This is a significant part of the local sports news.
