Heisman Winner Marcus Mariota Headlines Distinguished Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025

EUGENE, OR – The University of Oregon Athletics department announced Monday, June 9, a prestigious nine-member class set for induction into the Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame later this year. The 2025 inductees include five standout individual athletes and four championship-winning seasons, recognizing a period of exceptional achievement across multiple sports disciplines.

Leading the celebrated cohort is former Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota, the program’s only Heisman Trophy winner. Mariota’s tenure at Oregon was marked by historic success, culminating in the 2014 season during which he captured college football’s most coveted individual award and led the team to the national championship game.

A Class Defined by Excellence

The 2025 class reflects a diverse array of athletic prowess that brought significant recognition to the University of Oregon. Alongside Mariota, the individual athlete inductees feature former starting center Hroniss Grasu. Grasu was a stalwart on the offensive line during Mariota’s era, contributing significantly to the team’s high-powered attack and national prominence.

The inductees also include acclaimed track and field athletes. Jenna Prandini, a versatile competitor, is being recognized for her collegiate career which saw her secure three national championships as part of the dominant women’s track and field teams between 2012 and 2015. She excelled in both sprints and jumps, leaving an indelible mark on the program.

Men’s javelin thrower Sam Crouser also joins the Hall of Fame. Crouser was a consistent force in his event, adding further depth to Oregon’s reputation as a national track and field powerhouse.

Completing the individual athlete selections is Janie Reed (née Takeda), a standout centerfielder for the Oregon softball team. Reed’s collegiate career preceded her success on the international stage, where she earned recognition as an Olympic medalist, highlighting the global impact of Oregon’s athletic alumni.

Recognizing Dynastic Team Success

Beyond individual honors, the Hall of Fame class of 2025 acknowledges the collective excellence of specific teams. The University of Oregon Athletics is inducting the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 women’s indoor track and field teams. This recognition completes the enshrinement of a remarkable era, joining the previously honored 2010 squad to celebrate five consecutive national championship teams in the discipline. Their sustained dominance over half a decade represents one of the most successful periods for any program in NCAA history.

Significance of the Class

According to Oregon athletic director Rob Mullens, the 2025 class stands out for its exceptional achievements. Mullens highlighted the caliber of the inductees, noting the inclusion of a Heisman Trophy winner in Mariota, an Olympic medalist in Reed, and multiple NCAA champions among the individual honorees.

The induction ceremony, details of which are expected to be announced later, will serve as a formal recognition of the significant contributions these athletes and teams made to the legacy of Oregon Athletics. Their performances not only brought championships and accolades but also inspired future generations of Ducks.

The selection process for the Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame considers athletes, teams, coaches, and administrators who have demonstrated exceptional performance, achievement, and impact during their time at the university and beyond. The class of 2025, with its blend of individual brilliance and team dominance, exemplifies the highest standards of collegiate athletics and solidifies the place of these Ducks legends in university history.
